FAQ A: No. Whoever enrolls their child(ren) will pay for services to offset daycare costs and remain self-sufficient. Q: Where will the daycare be located? A: Currently, the CCSD1 Board is evaluating the business model prior to making any final decision about moving the project forward. Part of that process is to evaluate possible locations. There is no final decision related to a location at this time. Q: Why is tuition so expensive? A: To be self-sufficient, the daycare must have tuition rates that will support stable, quality staff. The tuition rates are comparable to rates throughout Wyoming and are based on hourly amounts extrapolated to monthly rates. Tuition for infants and toddlers is higher per hour due to the reduced ratios of children to staff. Q: Will the daycare accept DFS subsidy payments? A: This has not been decided at this time, however, CCSD1 is researching external funding options for a needs-based scholarship opportunity to help offset costs of this nature. Q: Is there an after-school program for older siblings? A: There is no after-school program being considered for school-aged children for the 25-26 school year. CCSD1 is hopeful that this may be able to be provided in the 2nd year of the program. Q: Why is the district considering opening a daycare? A: In recent years, Rawlins has seen a decline in childcare, primarily in facilities accepting children ages 0-36 months. Establishing a district-sponsored daycare will aid in the district’s efforts to retain and recruit teachers and staff with the availability of consistent childcare. Q: When will the daycare open? A: If approved to move forward, the projected opening date will be August 2025. Q: Will this service be available to LSRV? A: At this time, there are only plans to offer daycare services in Rawlins. It has been discussed and determined with LSRV personnel that there are sufficient daycare options available for CCSD1 employees who live in the Little Snake River Valley. Q: When will registration be available? A: As shared previously, the Board is still gathering information to make a decision on this matter in either March or April. Should the Board decide to approve this project, CCSD1 will begin the registration process as soon as possible afterward. Q: Will there be discounts available? A: Yes. The daycare is considering discounts for siblings, toilet training, annual payment discounts, and parenting classes or early childhood education credits applied to tuition. Q: Is the district subsidizing the daycare by covering certain costs and expenses? A: Should the Board choose to move forward with offering daycare services, then start-up costs will be incurred by CCSD1. These costs would be taken from one-time monies CCSD1 received as indirect costs associated with ESSER dollars. Beyond that, the intent is to operate the facility without any further financial participation on the part of the district. Q: What will the daycare’s schedule be? A: If approved, the daycare will follow the CCSD1 school calendar for the year. It will be open from August through May for all student contact days and all personal development days. It will be closed during the summer and for school breaks. Q: What employment benefits are available for daycare staff? A: Daycare staff will receive the required benefits such as FICA, retirement, and workman’s compensation. They will also be offered dental insurance as an optional benefit. They will not be eligible for life insurance or health insurance at this time.
